This project reworks the interior layout of an existing home to create a more open and functional living environment, focusing on how the spaces relate to each other and how they are used in daily life.

On the main floor, the layout was opened up to strengthen the connection between the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The kitchen was redesigned to feel more integrated into the overall space, making it more comfortable for everyday use and gathering. By reducing unnecessary separations, the floor became easier to move through and more cohesive overall.

The bedroom areas were also refined with a focus on practicality. Bathrooms and closets were redesigned to improve storage, comfort, and overall efficiency. In one of the rooms, a new bathroom was added to improve usability and make the space more self-contained.

The basement was rethought as a usable part of the home rather than an underutilized level. Through reorganization, it was turned into a more functional living area that better supports everyday activities and extends the usable space of the house.

Overall, the project is about making better use of what already exists—improving connections, simplifying the layout, and making the house feel more natural and comfortable to live in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was the goal of this project?

The goal of this project was to reconfigure the existing interior to improve functionality and spatial flow without altering the exterior. The basement was transformed into a fully usable living level, while the main floor was opened up by redesigning the kitchen and strengthening the connection between living and dining areas. Bedrooms, bathrooms, and closets were also upgraded to create a more efficient use of space.

How did you approach the design process?

The design process started with a careful review of the existing layout and the spatial limitations of the house. The focus was on improving circulation and creating a more logical relationship between key living areas through interior reconfiguration. Openings and connections were adjusted to strengthen spatial flow and natural light. For the basement, the approach was to activate an underused level and turn it into a functional living space. On the main floor, the kitchen and adjacent spaces were reorganized to create a more open and connected plan.

What challenges did you face?

The main challenge of the project was significantly reconfiguring the interior spaces without making major structural or exterior interventions. Maintaining the existing façade while extensively redesigning the internal layout required careful planning to balance constraints and new spatial needs.
